Light & Shadow: Go, Territory & Systems Thinking

A four-week course inspired by LightAndShadowGame.com, treating Go as a way to practice long-term thinking, balance, and trade-offs.

Week 1 – Territory & Influence

  • See the board as a landscape of potential, not just stones.
  • Mark zones of influence with colors or patterns.
  • Key terms: influence, territory, shape.

Week 2 – Local vs Global

  • Map local fights and global plans on separate layers.
  • Practice deciding when to stay and when to tenuki (go elsewhere).
  • Key terms: local, global, priority.

Week 3 – Life & Death

  • Study simple life-and-death shapes as repeating patterns.
  • Relate this to projects in real life: when to rescue, when to let go.

Week 4 – Systems & Surrender

  • Analyze one longer game as a story of trades and choices.
  • Write a reflection about how Go has changed your view of systems.
